Central Valley

Huron, CA, a small city known for its large production of lettuce, yet their community members experience many disparities. Our trip will focus on the agricultural abundance of the city and its associated farmworker struggles. We will work with our community partner to address these issues, while at the same time making advances toward broader social issues such as environmental and climate justice. We will engage in detailed readings, discussions, and collaborative projects. Overall, our trip and decal experience will enable us to reflect on the local struggles of immigrant communities and ongoing climate change.

The LEAP (Latino Equity, Advocacy & Policy) Institute works with communities to achieve economic, environment and climate justice through leadership development, coalition building, community organizing, participatory action research, and advocacy for racial justice.
